- This event has passed.
26 April 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pmFree – £14
David will be sharing his knowledge of China with you at this exciting event and he is looking forward to a lively interactive discussion after his talk! Perfect for anyone interested in travelling to China or doing business there, come along to meet like-minded people and learn more about the country to enhance your travels there.
China is frequently misunderstood here in UK, maybe because it’s not covered adequately at school or misrepresented in the media. This talk will give you a greater understanding of this fascinating country. It will last about 45 minutes, with a further 30 minutes for questions and discussion. The talk will cover:
- Geography of China and why understanding this is important
- History and particularly why it is relevant to modern China
- Language, is it really as difficult as they say?
- Chinese philosophy – a subject in its own right, but briefly covered here
- Interactive discussion will follow!
Bio: David Howard
David has been travelling to China, and other parts of Asia, on business as a Telecommunications consultant and a tourist for almost 40 years since the 1980s. This experience gave him the incentive and curiosity to study the history and culture of the Chinese-speaking world. He is deeply passionate about China. He is also learning Mandarin Chinese, which makes his travels in China more enjoyable and also gives him a deeper understanding of Chinese culture.
He has recently returned from a visit to the lower Yangzi Delta of China, where he was privileged to attend the wedding ceremony of one of his close friends.
