Chinese Festival: Dragon Boat & Food!
June 28 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm£12.00
Come and celebrate the Chinese Dragon Boat festival with us! The Dragon Boat festival, also called Duanwu jie (端午节) is a fun tradition, celebrated on the 5th day of the 5th month of the Chinese calendar each year. The festival traces back to more than 2,000 years ago, where Chinese people commemorate Qu Yuan (340 – 278 BC), an ancient Chinese patriotic poet.
In 2008 the festival was made a statutory public holiday in China and many more people join in the festivities. There are many ways to celebrate, and many of these involve delicious food like zongzi (粽子) – delicious traditional sticky rice dumplings, made with different fillings and wrapped in bamboo leaves. Dragon Boat festival is now widely celebrated across parts of China, HK, Taiwan, Macau and the international expat communities – including the UK.
Be a part of the traditional celebration by joining us for a fun, informative evening filled with stories about the Dragon boat festival and delicious food! You will be enriched with history, legends, customs and traditions of the Dragon boat festival, meet other like-minded people and did we mention the food?
